Laylat al-Miraj (Shab-e-Miraj) – 27 Rajab 1448 AH

The night of the Isra' and Mi'raj is also referred to as the Night of the Travelling from the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem (Isra') and then to the presence of Allah (Mi'raj). It was on this journey that the five prayers were prescribed for the Muslim Ummah. This night is celebrated with sincere prayers, recitations, and gatherings in which you can listen to debates on the importance of Salah in everyday life for Muslims. 

Sha'ban and Laylat al-Bara'ah (Shab-e-Barat)

In many Muslim countries, especially in South Asia, the 15th night of Sha'ban is celebrated as a night of forgiveness and mercy. It is a night when many Muslims worship Allah and seek his forgiveness for their sins. Sha'ban is also the month to prepare spiritually for the month of Ramadhan. The Prophet (PBUH) would fast often in the month of Sha'ban, saying: "It is a month which people forget, between the month of Ramadan and the month of Rajab.

The Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr)

Laylat al-Qadr is the greatest of all nights in the Islamic year.

In the Quran it is stated that it is "better than a thousand months" (Surah Al-Qadr, 97:3). 

On this night angels descend and prayers performed on this night are rewarded exclusively. The Prophet (PBUH) gave Muslims the advice to search for it on the odd numbered nights of the last ten days of Ramadan, especially the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th nights. Muslims do I'tikaf during the last 10 days to get the best of their worship.

Eid al-Fitr 2027 – 1 Shawwal 1448 AH 

The following are some of the key practices of Eid al-Fitr:

  • Taking part in the Eid prayer in essential for every Muslims, preferably in an open ground or a big mosque

  • Giving Zakat al-Fitr (charity required on Eid day) before the Eid prayer, so that the poor people can also celebrate the Eid day.

  • Visiting family and friends

The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "There are no days that are more beloved to Allah than these ten days. (Sunan Ibn Majah - 1727)

These are regarded as the holiest ten days of the year during which worship is increased, fasting (particularly on the 9th, the Day of Arafah), dhikr and charity. For those Muslims who are not going to Hajj, they are encouraged to fast on the Day of Arafah.

Eid al-Adha: 10 Dhul Hijjah 1449 AH

Here are some of the key practices of Eid al-Adhah 

  • Prayer at the time of Eid which is the first most essential thing to perform. 

  • Qurbani (animal sacrifice), meat is divided into three parts, one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need.

Day of Ashura: 10 Muharram 1449 AH

Ashura is a day very important in the Islamic calendar, and there are several hadiths in support of that. It is narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said that fasting on this day forgives one's sins from the previous year. Fasting on Ashura is highly encouraged, preferably with fasting on the 9th of Muharram, and is a reminder of Allah saving Prophet Musa (Moses) and the Israelites from Pharaoh, for Sunnis.

  • Ashura is a day of mourning for Muslims as it marks the martyrdom of Imam Husayn ibn Ali at the Battle of Karbala (680 CE), and is celebrated through processions, remembrance, and mourning. Ashura, in whatever form it may be observed, is a day of great significance to the Muslims of all sects.
