Types of Hajj – You Need to Know
There are three types of Hajj, including Tamattu, Qiran, and Ifrad. According to these types, pilgrims perform the Hajj rituals. Now, start reading about the differences between these types!
Hajj Tamattu
In this type of Hajj, both Umrah and Hajj are included, and they are performed on Dhul Hijjah days. Pilgrims must sacrifice the animals. Once you finish the Tawaf and Sa’i in Umrah, you can change the Ihram and carry another dress. Following the interval, the pilgrim re-enters Ihram on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah to begin Hajj rituals. Recite this dua in this Hajj 2025.
Hajj Qiran
In this second type of Hajj, both Umrh and Hajj are performed without any break. Performing the act of sacrifice is a sacred obligation in this Hajj. Say this dua during your Hajj Qiran.
Labbayk Allahumma bi Hajjah wa ‘Umrah
Hajj Ifrad
Hajj Ifrad is centred entirely on Hajj’s rituals. Here, there is no need to sacrifice any animal. But remember to recite this dua during Hajj Ifrad.
Labbayk Allahumma Hajjan
I would like to inquire about something. Do you know which Hajj is the best Hajj of all?
Hajj-e-Tamattu is considered the best, as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions (RA) performed it.

Day 1 – 8th Dhul Hijjah
Making Strong Niyyah
Before you land in Makkah, first of all, make your Niyyah that you are performing this Hajj only for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Purify your heart just for Allah.
Entering in the State of Ihram
Hajj started on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah. After making Niyyah, the next step is to enter the state of Ihram. Ihram is the spiritual state entered upon intending to perform Hajj 2025.
Men wear white clothes in which one piece is wrapped around the waist and the other piece of white cloth enfold around the shoulder. Ladies can wear any colour of clothes with loose fittings that cover them properly. It indicates all Muslims are equal; no one is greater in race, colour, or wealth. Always carry comfortable shoes so that you can walk easily.
Additionally, obey some of these rules, such as not involving in sexual activity. The Sunnah practice of entering Ihram at the designated Meeqat is:
- Take a shower.
- Scent yourself with fragrance.
- Neatly trim the moustache, nails, armpits, and pubic hair.
Recite the Talbiya often during Ihram. For your ease, it is given below:
لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، انَّالْحَمْدَ، وَالنِّعْمَةَ، لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لا شَرِيكَ لَك
“Labbayk Allaahumma labbayk, labbayk laa shareeka laka labbayk, ‘innal-hamda, wanni’mata, laka walmulk, laa shareeka laka”
Performing Tawaf
The next step is Tawaf. It is moving in a circular form around the Kaaba seven times, starting and ending at the black stone. Further, you can also perform prayers. This makes your relationship stronger with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.
Note: Women who are menstruating should refrain from performing Tawaf.
Tell me in the comment section, are you getting more interested about Hajj guide, or thinking about booking?
Sa’i – Seven Runs between Safa and Marwa
Once you are done with the Tawaf, the next step is to perform Sa’i. This is the walk and runs between Safa and Marwa hills seven times, starting from Safa and moving toward Marwa. Pilgrims run between the green markers and walk to Marwa, completing one step. After that, you again start your second step from Safa. This act is completed in seven steps.
This ritual reminds the struggle of Hazrat Hajar (AS), the wife of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), as she searched for water for his son, Hazrat Isma’il (AS), in the desert.
Note: If you are among those individuals who are performing Hajj Ifrad, their Hajj rituals will begin now. Individuals who are performing Hajj Qiran should remain in Ihram state until the Hajj ends without any break.
Think how blessed you are that you have started your Hajj by getting the best Hajj 2025 packages UK. Take benefit from the blessings of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala and seek forgiveness.
Arriving at Mina
On the very first day of Hajj, offer the Fajar prayer in Makkah and then move to Mina. Before this journey again enters a state of Ihram, also says Talbiyah frequently, given above. When you reach Mina at your designated location, perform Salah.
Here, pilgrims stay overnight during the first day of Hajj. Make your whole night blessed by reciting the Quran Pak and doing other good deeds. This will give you eternal peace and strengthen your bond with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.
2nd Day – 9th Dhul Hijjah
The Arafah Day
This day is considered the most important one. At sunrise, travel from Mina to Arafah, make lots of Duas, recite Talbiyah and Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), and seek the forgiveness of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. It is necessary to arrive here before the Duhar prayer. Pilgrims will combine Dhuhr and Asr prayers as Sunnah, skip Maghrib in Arafah, and then proceed to Muzdalifah after sunset. Have you any idea about the distance between Mina and Arafah? The travel distance between Mina and Arafah is close to 15km.
A sermon is delivered from Masjid al-Nimra; if it is feasible, you must hear it.
This day is so special for Muslims. On Arafah Day, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala forgives sins and frees many from Hellfire.
If you are not performing Hajj, you have the option to fast on this day. And this is good practice. For maximum blessings of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, you must keep fast.
Note: Whether you are performing Hajj or not, say Takbeer after each obligatory prayer from the 9th of Dhul Hijjah to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah (Asr).
. ﷲُّ أَﻛﺒﺮُ. ﷲُّ أﻛﺒﺮُ. ﻻ إﻟَﻪَ إِﻻ ﷲّ. ﷲُّ أﻛﺒﺮُ ﷲُّ اﻛﺒﺮُ. و ﻟِﻠّﻪِ اﻟﺤﻤﺪُ
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil Hamd.
Reaching at Muzdalifah
During travel, recite Talbiyah and Takbeer repeatedly. At this place, you will offer Maghrib and Isha prayers combined on Isha time. The reason behind it is that it is a sunnah practice. Take care of time to rest or engage in worship until just before Fajr. Recite these Duas during your stay in Muzdalifah.
أَكْبَرُ (Allaahu ‘Akbar)
لاَإِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ (Laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaah)
أَللّهُ أَحَدٌ (Allaahu ‘Ahad )
Now, collect some pebbles in Muzdalifah, which you will throw on the Satin for three days. You have to collect 49 pebbles. But it is recommended that to collect 70 pebbles in case you lose some of them.
3rd Day – 10th Dhul Hijjah
Rami & Hady
The 10th of Dhul-Hijjah is Eid al-Adha, which honours Hazrat Ibrahim’s (AS) obedience to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala through the Qurbani (sacrifice), commemorated by Muslims worldwide. It is also known as Yawm al-Nahr. It is the day of Sacrifice. When individuals offer Fajar prayer, they travel from Muzdalifah for Mina and recite Talbiyah.
Remember, stop saying Talbiyah when you start the Rami process.
Pilgrims engage in the symbolic stoning at Jamarat over three days, while Muslims around the globe start Eid al-Adha by offering Qurbani.
Now, I will elaborate on the correct way to perform Rami. Ready to know? It is mandatory to know that!
The correct way of stoning pebbles on Satin is to throw 7 stones on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and 21 stones on the 11th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah. At Jamarat, throw 7 pebbles, saying Allahu’ Akbar.
After that, Muslim pilgrims sacrifice an animal, known as nahr, and distribute the meat to the needy. It is your choice; you can slaughter the animal by yourself, or you can also book someone. During the sacrifice, recite this dua:
بِسْمِ اللهِ واللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُمَّ مِنْكَ ولَكَ اللَّهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي
Bismillaahi wallaahu ‘Akbar [Allaahumma minka wa laka] Allaahumma taqabbal minnee

Halq or Taqsir
After the completion of Rami, men shave their heads fully, which is Halq, or trim their head hair partially, which is known as Taqsir. On the other side, women cut their hair equal to the length of their fingertips. Now you can wear any usual dresses.
Travel for Sa’i & Perform Tawaf
Go to Masjid al-Haram for Tawaf al-Ifarad, pray two Raka’h at Makam E Ibrahim, offer Dhuhr Salah at the Kaaba, perform Sa’i, drink Zam Zam, and return to Mina for the night.
4th Day – 11th Dhul Hijjah
Stoning Ritual for the Next Two Days
Offer Dhuhar prayer, then repeat this act of throwing stones for two days. Total, 21 pebbles you have. Use 7 pebbles for each of the three pillars in sequence:
- Jamarat al-Ula – Small Jamarah
- Jamarat al-Wusta – Middle Jamarah
- Jamarat al-Aqaba – Large Jamarah
After that act, stay in Mina.
Note: Remember to recite Allahu Akbar when you throw the stones.
5th Day – 12th Dhul Hijjah
Repeat the same stoning step as described just right above. After performing Rami, leave Mina for Makkah before sunset on the 12th of Dhul Hijjah, perform Tawaf-e-Wida; it includes 7 laps around the Kaaba and drinking Zam Zam water. You can offer two Raka’h at Maqam E Ibrahim. However, entering Ihram is not required. Most Muslims also visit Madinah, which is also the holiest city.
I think you are now more curious to know about the best travel agency for Hajj 2025.
6th Day – 13th Dhul Hijjah
If you are the ones who are still in Mina, you have to do Rami again. After that, move from Makkah and perform Tawaf-e-Wida. You should also offer 2 Rakat of Salah in Maqam E Ibrahim.
Congratulations! May Allah accept your Hajj and grant you peace and blessings! Ameen.
